Battle

The long fight against sexual sin takes its toll. It calls us, looking warm and inviting. But in reality, it wants nothing but to consume us. It drags us closer to destruction and we struggle to get away, back and forth. We’re bruised and bloodied. Our armor is beaten and in disrepair. But the Sword is ever sharp.

Ok guys let’s get real and honest, sexual sin is something we all struggle with. Porn, masturbation, looking where we shouldn’t, lust, sex outside of marriage, they’re alluring and seem so pleasurable and good in the moment. But in reality, it does nothing but tear us up, drag us down, and keep us from doing and living in God’s will. It hurts us in so many different ways, some we don’t even notice until way down the line: loss of sleep/time/money, shame, lack of inspiration, unrealistic views of what a relationship with a woman should be; I could go on, but I think you got the idea. Sexual sin so destructive and insidious that it’s impact reaches beyond us individually and out to those around us; especially our girlfriend, fiancé, or wife.

1 Thessalonians 4:3-5: “For this is the will of God, your sanctification: that you abstain from sexual immorality; that each one of you know how to control his own body in holiness and honor, not in the passion of lust like the Gentiles who do not know God;”

1 Peter 2:11: “Beloved, I urge you as sojourners and exiles to abstain from the passions of the flesh, which wage war against your soul.”

1 Corinthians 6:13, 1 Corinthians 6:18-20, Romans 8:12-13, Ephesians 5:3-5, Proverbs 6:27-29, Proverbs 7:1-27, Proverbs 5:1-6, Proverbs 6:32, Matthew 5:27-28

BUT we have been given the perfect weapon to fight back to claim victory.

1 Corinthians 10:13: “No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.”

Galatians 5:16: “But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.”

Philippians 4:8: “Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.”

1 John 1:9, James 1:12-15, Proverbs 7:1-27, Proverbs 4:23

Every day is a battle, sometimes it feels impossible to win, but with God we can win every time. And if you mess up, don’t stay down, get back up, ask for forgiveness, get ready for the next fight.
